Memorial Day Thoughts

This Memorial Day I think about our fallen soldiers in context of our current dilemma and divide over mass migration and deportations. It’s an issue, like many others, that’s split among party lines. Although there were many democrats that opposed Biden allowing millions of illegals into our country, at the same time it’s only the left that’s for open borders and oppose deportations.   

The divide on this issue is an outgrowth of a more fundamental difference between the right and the left in our country.  The right views America in a more positive light while the left generally has a more negative view. Though our country is neither perfect nor without fault, those on the right believe our foundational values, our culture, and our heritage are worth preserving. As a result, they tend to be more proud, patriotic, and grateful. Those on the left tend to believe our country is steeped in oppression, racism, and injustice. Thus many of them sadly don’t pride themselves on being an American but self-identify more as a global member of a group of shared beliefs. These are the people who are for open borders.

But our fallen soldiers didn’t make the ultimate sacrifice for our country to become an open border, free-for-all, unsovereign land. They did it for us. They did it to preserve our culture; our way of life. And I can’t think of anything more ungrateful and more disrespectful than the corrupt politicians who allowed millions of unchecked illegals into our country simply for votes and their radical, woke supporters of this. These soldiers didn’t make the ultimate sacrifice for us to follow in the footsteps of other Western countries who are at risk of losing their national identity due to unchecked migration.

The best way to honor our fallen soldiers is for us to ensure we preserve what makes America, America. Our nation welcomes immigrants. One of our defining characteristics is that anyone can succeed here regardless of race, class, background, etc. That’s why so many people want to come here. We just need to make sure that those who do come here want to be part of the same fabric.  We honor our fallen soldiers by preserving our culture, values, and heritage.
